Bridgestone breaks ground on $60m expansion in US
Project to see addition of mixing capacity, extra working days, at Texas tread rubber plant
Nashville, Tennessee - Bridgestone Americas has broken ground on an expansion project at its ‘Bandag’ retread tire plant in Abilene, Texas.
The $60 million (€55 million) project will add an area of 50,000 square feet to the facility to support demand for tread rubber products.
Driven by the “rapid growth” of the retread business, the expansion includes “an immediate increase in operational activity,” said Bridgestone 16 May.
As a result, the plant will run on six and seven-day production schedules, it added.
Further more, the project will include the building of new mixing operations at the facility, to be completed by January 2025.
The investment in the facility and the additional days of operations will increase the plant’s output by 16%, according to Bridgestone.
Bandag supplies retread tires for fleets, offering both an ‘economic and sustainable’ solution to extend life of tires.
