Agreement covers 35% of output from Wastefront tire pyrolysis plant being built in UK
Hamburg, Germany – German distributor Weber & Schaer has signed an offtake and on-sale agreement for recovered carbon black (rCB) from a Wastefront plant being built in the UK.
The deal covers a minimum of 35% of the rCB to be produced at Wastefront's tire pyrolysis facility, currently under construction in north-east England.
Located in Sunderland, the €120-million waste-tire recycling plant is slated to be commercially operational by 2025.
Once fully operational, the facility will have capacity to process around 80,000 tonnes of end-of-life tires, according to the Oslo-based company.
Wastefront is "now markedly stronger with the addition of Weber & Schaer’s unique technical and market competences to distribute rCB,” said Vianney Vales, CEO of Wastefront.
For Weber & Schaer, managing partner René Marc Weber said:"We believe that together we can make a significant impact towards a greener future creating value from end-of-life tires.
"Our new partnership will enable us to further improve our eco-friendly product offerings, incorporating innovative technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of our customers’ rubber products.”
