Facility to be built at tire maker’s new headquarters in Gunma Prefecture
Tokyo – Japan Michelin Tire Co. is looking to “create and revitalise business in new areas” with the addition of a new driving simulation lab.
The company has reached an agreement with simulation and visual testing specialist S&VL Co. for the construction of the lab based on an open platform.
The facility will be added to Michelin’s site in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, where the tire maker will relocate its head office this summer.
S&VL will establish a simulation technology laboratory centred on the driving simulator "DiM300" provided by software supplier VI-grade.
Installation work will take place during the second half of the year and the lab is scheduled to start operation by February next year, said Michelin 28 April.
By installing the equipment on the site, Michelin said it aimed to remove the obstacles for individual companies that require driving simulation technology.
The lab, it went on to say, will create a venue for automotive-related companies to “advanced real-time simulation and virtual testing to streamline vehicle development.”
“This partnership will accelerate the development of the 'tire-related' businesses,” said Hajime Sudo, president of Japan Michelin Tire.
“We will share knowledge with each other [automotive companies] and collaborate on tire and vehicle model development,” he added.
