Weather strips, rubber sheets at Morimachi factory receive ISCC Plus certification
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei has acquired the international sustainability and carbon certification (c) for its automotive rubber parts plant in Morimachi, Shizuoka.
The certification recognises Toyoda Gosei’s efforts to recycle waste materials generated during the production of rubber parts, said the group in a statement.
The recycling, it said, is done with “original technology” to regenerate rubber waste as “high-quality raw material.”
The statement did not provide further details on the technology but said the certification acknowledges the sustainability of the products through a “mass balance approach”.
The details certified products include automotive weatherstrips and recycled rubber sheets, according to Toyoda Gosei.
ISCC Plus certification shows that biomass, recyclate and sustainable feedstock are closely managed under the mass-balance method throughout manufacture and supply.
Mass balance is a 'chain of custody' model that tracks recycled materials co-processed with virgin materials so that recyclate-content is appropriately allocated to products.
