Tokyo – Bridgestone Corp. has now switched to renewable energy for all purchased electricity used at ten of its tire and raw materials production factories in Japan.
The facilities include tire manufacturing units in Hikone, Tosu, Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu, which had already made the switch in 2021.
In addition, tire plants in Hofu, Tochigi, Nasu, Kurume and Amagi as well as tire cord facility in Saga shifted to renewable power in the past six months, Bridgestone reported 21 April.
The Japanese group has also started switching to renewable energy at two chemical product factories in Seki and Kumamoto factories.
“[We] will continue to systematically develop and expand this in the future,” said the Tokyo-based group.
According to Bridgestone, the effect of the recent progress brings the renewable electricity ratio at its local Japanese production bases at approximately 90%.
The move is part of the group’s bid to reduce total CO2 emissions by 50% from 2011 levels by 2030, and becoming carbon neutral by 2050 .
