Michelin recall after tires fail 'snow spin' testing
Over 540,000 Agilis CrossClimate tires recalled for not offering “sufficient snow traction”
Washington – Michelin North America has launched a major recall of its Agilis CrossClimate C-metric 'snow tires' over road traction issues.
The recall was flagged up by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a 13 April announcement.
The recall, it stated, covers over 540,000 tires, produced between 1 Jan 2017 and 6 April 2023.
The tires, said NHTSA, were “marked with the Alpine symbol, but do not meet the traction requirements for snow tires pursuant to the standard.”
The Alpine symbol identifies a tire as suitable for snow conditions, according to the US agency.
Michelin said it found out about the issue during testing as “part of plans to move some tire production of the affected tires from Europe to the US.”
The tires “returned failing snow spin results,” according to the French-headquartered tire manufacturer.
