New facility in Bangalore area to increase local production capacity by 60%
Trelleborg, Sweden - Trelleborg Group is to consolidate its sealing products manufacturing operations in India into a new greenfield facility.
To be built over the next three years, the SEK300 million plant in Bangalore is scheduled for start-up in the first half of 2026.
The new facility, said the Swedish group, will replace its existing facilities in India, which will soon reach their full capacity.
“The Indian market is showing continued strong growth,” Trelleborg explained in a 19 April statement.
The investment is part of a strategy "to strengthen positions in attractive and profitable industries and geographic areas,” it added.
Trelleborg has been present in India for more than 40 years and has seen a “very strong” sales trend in the country in the past decade, said CEO Peter Nilsson.
The group currently generates nearly SEK600 million in India, the Trelleborg leader pointed out.
In India, Trelleborg supplies seals to industries including aerospace and healthcare & medical, as well as renewable energy and other industrial niches.
The new production facility for seals will increase the group’s production capacity in India by more than 60%, Nilsson added.
Currently, Trelleborg's manufacturing facilities consist of three separate properties, close to each other, in the Bangalore area.
"To provide a stable and efficient platform for growth, we will acquire land and build a facility specific to the needs of the site, also in the Bangalore area," the group said in a 20 April statement to ERJ.
The unit will combine production efficiencies with sustainability features such as solar panels, green transportation, and effective water management.
In addition to sealing solutions, Trelleborg produces automotive boots, cable entry solutions, and antivibration solutions for industrial and railway applications in India.
ERJ understands that these operations will not be affected by the consolidation of Trelleborg’s sealing production operations in India.
The group is currently in the process of finalising a deal to acquire a local automotive supplier to “considerably strengthen” its production of automotive boots in the country.
