Facility in Addis becomes company's second production facility to achieve ISCC Plus certification
Fort Worth, Texas – Tokai Carbon CB has announced that its carbon black production facility in Addis, Louisiana has been certified to the ISCC (international sustainability and carbon certification) Plus standard.
This is the second Tokai Carbon plant that can supply 'sustainable carbon black', after the company’s Borger, Texas unit received the certification in early 2022.
Indeed, according to the company, its Borger facility was the world’s first carbon black plant to gain the accreditation.
The ISCC Plus standard uses a mass balance approach to enable users of circular and bio-based feedstocks to certify their products corresponding to the amount of these feedstocks consumed.
Tokai Carbon said it currently uses a circular tire pyrolysis oil from ISCC Plus certified suppliers to produce sustainable carbon black.
In addition to meeting customer demand, the products will support the development of tire recycling through tire pyrolysis, said Mark Leigh, president of Tokai Carbon CB.
In addition to the certifications, Tokai Carbon CB has achieved a gold rating on the EcoVadis sustainability scorecard.
Part of Japan-based Tokai Carbon Group, Tokai Carbon CB produces more than 40 grades of carbon black at three US locations – with its third facility at Big Spring, Texas.
