Hankook, Nokian and Pirelli recognised for sustainability efforts on 'DJSI World'
London – Three major tire makers have made it on to the list of top global companies recognised in the latest Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).
Unveiled 12 Dec, the list’s automotive components section includes most notably Pirelli & C. SpA which scored an industry-leading point of 85 out of the possible 100, earning itself a ‘gold class recognition’.
Also on the gold list was South Korea’s Hankook Tire, which made its seventh consecutive appearance on the list.
Hankook was one of the two Korean automotive companies to achieve the honour alongside Hyundai Mobis.
In a statement 12 Dec, Hankook said DJSI committees in each area established that
“Hankook Tire has consistently communicated its sustainability initiatives to its employees and improved its company-wide ESG [environmental, social, and corporate governance] standards.”
Also recognised by DJSI was Finnish tire maker Nokian Tyres plc which was awarded a silver class spot with a score of 75.
The company, which is set to start the construction of the world’s “first zero-CO2 emission” tire factory in Romania early next year, said it achieved “a full score” in the product quality and recall management, environmental reporting, and social reporting criteria.
It also achieved “industry best” score of 82 in occupational health and safety in the automotive component section.
Bridgestone Corp. was mentioned on the list as the DJSI ‘sustainability yearbook member’.
Established in 1999, the DJSI recognises leaders in sustainability as identified by S&P Global’s assessment of various criteria, including corporate philanthropy, human rights, supply chain management, and R&D innovation.
This year 13,800 companies were invited to complete the CSA. Of those, 3,519 companies were eligible for selection into DJSI.
