Teams developed new flexible polymer for the purpose
Amsterdam, Netherlands – Peugeot is reinventing car accessories with the use of 3D printing technology and a new flexible polymer specifically designed for the purpose.
In collaboration with with HP Inc., Mäder and ERPRO, the car brand has developed a range of accessories including a sunglasses holder, a can holder and a phone/card holder for the new Peugeot 308.
The teams, said Peugeot in a 24 March statement, developed a new flexible polymer ‘in just a few months’ that could offer short processing time and high quality for rendering, due to its very fine molecules.
The Ultrasint thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was developed in partnership between HP Inc and BASF and offers “durable, strong and flexible parts”.
The material can be used to produce parts with a high surface quality and “a very high level of detail,” Peugeot added.
For the production of the parts, Peugeot said it used HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing technology, which is a layer-by-layer additive manufacturing technology on a powder bed.
