Closure of Tennessee truck and bus radial unit to impact 700 employees, with more jobs to go elsewhere
Nashville, Tennessee – Bridgestone Americas, part of Bridgestone Corp, is to close its truck and bus radial tire plant in LaVergne, Tennessee effective 31 July, the company has announced.
The decision is part of the company’s strategic initiatives to optimise its business footprint and strengthen its competitiveness, according to its press statement issued 23 Jan.
Around 700 ‘hourly and staff teammates’ will be impacted by the closure, said Bridgestone, which also implement significant cutback measures in other areas.
Steps include plant-capacity and job cuts at its Des Moines, Iowa agriculture tire plant, as well as layoffs across the company’s US corporate, sales and operations.
“This decision will strengthen our core business, enabling us to operate more efficiently,” said Scott Damon, CEO, Bridgestone West and group president, Bridgestone Americas.
Additionally, Bridgestone is undertaking “business rebuilding” activities at its Latin America operations, including cutting jobs and production capacity at facilities and operations in Argentina and Brazil.
The cost-reduction measures are part of a ‘business rebuilding second stage, to 2025' under Bridgestone’s mid-term business plan (2024-2026).
