Technology claimed to be able to ‘self-repair multiple punctures’
New Delhi – JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has launched what it has described as “India’s first” puncture-proof tires for passenger cars.
Puncture Guard tire technology features “a specially engineered self-healing elastomer inner coat, applied inside the tires through an automated process,” said JK Tyre in a statement 24 March.
The elastomer can ‘instantly self-repair’ multiple punctures of up to 6.0 mm diameter in the tread area, caused by nails or other sharp objects, the company added.
“With the introduction of smart tire technology in 2020 and now the puncture guard tire technology, we have delivered on our commitment to provide advanced mobility solutions to our customers,” said Dr Raghupati Singhania, chairman & managing director.
JK Tyre said it has tested Puncture Guard tires across all Indian on-road and off-road conditions.
“The tires are secure, unique and designed for optimal performance, drastically improving road safety while mitigating any potential accidents,” it concluded.
