Minnesota Rubber and Plastics says purchase adds "advanced silicone formulation and compounding expertise"
Minneapolis, Minnesota – US supplier of engineered elastomer and thermoplastic products Minnesota Rubber and Plastics (MRP) has acquired Primasil Silicones Ltd., a UK custom silicone rubber compounder.
Based in Weobley, Herefordshire, Primasil offers a wide range of custom materials, including platinum-cured silicone, conductive silicone, flourosilicone, high- and low-temperature silicone, low smoke and toxicity silicone and black rubber, said MRP 7 March.
Furthermore, Primasil’s has high precision manufacturing capabilities including cleanroom moulding, extrusion and assembly as well as mixing, injection moulded and gum silicone and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) products.
The company mainly supplies to medical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and speciality industrial end markets.
MRP expects the acquisition to add silicone expertise to its materials science-driven innovation centre, which is scheduled to be launched in spring.
“Primasil’s custom material formulation, mixing and moulding expertise will complement Minnesota Rubber and Plastic’s,” said CEO Jay Ward.
“The addition of a highly technical production presence in the UK and the Czech Republic will allow us to take our local [European] capabilities to the next level,” he added.
In particular, the acquisition will expand MRP’s European presence in the medical end market, he added.
According to Ward, MRP is actively looking to “partner and acquire technical elastomer companies across the region [Europe].”
