USTMA predicts record shipments for US tire market

Both replacement and original equipment segments set for growth
Washington – The US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) expects record tire shipments in 2022, as both original equipment and replacement markets are set for growth this year.
In its February forecast, published 1 March, USTMA said the total US tire shipments are expected to come at 340.2 million units in 2022, compared to 335.2 million units in 2021 and 332.7 million units in 2019.
Compared with 2021, OE shipments for passenger car tires are to grow 6.2% to just under 40 million units.
Volumes for light truck and truck tires are expected to increase by 4.4% and 6.3% respectively to 6 million and 6.3 million units, according to USTMA.
In total, the figures will represent an increase of 2.9 million units.
The replacement market is expected to reach a record high, with passenger car tires set for a 1% growth in volumes to 226.8 million units.
Light truck tire shipments are projected to decline 0.3% to 38.5 million units while truck tire volumes are set to increase 1.0% to just under 23 million units.
The total unit addition for replacement shipments is projected to reach 2.2 million units, according to USTMA.
