Ahmedabad, India — Cheng Shin Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd./Maxxis International has commissioned production at its plant in India in a ceremony attended by the chief minister of Gujarat State, where the plant is located.
Capacity at the Ahmedabad plant is rated at 20,000 motorcycle tires and 40,000 tubes a day in phase-one.
The Taiwanese company invested $400 million to build the plant, its first in India and 16th overall — six in Taiwan; eight in China; and one each in India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Capacity totals over 1 million tires a day.
Gujarat chief minister Vijaybhai Rupani attended the 8 March christening ceremony. The plant was built on a 106-acre site and employs 600 at start-up. Employment could rise to 2,000 within five years, Maxxis said.
Maxxis established Maxxis Rubber India Pvt Ltd in 2014 to oversee construction of the plant and start building business in India.
