Environmental impact of tire abrasion is “up to 50% higher" for other manufacturers than for Michelin...
Milan, Italy – Michelin has developed and maintained a “considerable competitive advantage” in reducing tire abrasion and particle emissions, the French group informed investors.
In a 25 March presentation in Milan, Michelin said its tires produce much lower particulate emissions compared to rival tire brands, with an abrasion rate of 95g per 1,000 km.
The figure, added the French group, is well below the industry average of 122g, with some competing tires reportedly emitting up to 136g per 1,000 km.
Furthermore, Michelin cited independent studies showing that the environmental impact of tire abrasion is “up to 50% higher for other manufacturers than for Michelin.”
Michelin linked the figures to its development of tire and materials technologies that, it claimed, gives the group an “enormous lead” over its competitors.
