Project to add passenger car tire capacity at Wuxi site 'about to reach full production...'
Zhuhai, China – Jiangsu General Science Technology Co. is set to complete an upgrade of its plant in Wuxi, China to include production of passenger car tires.
The project will add a capacity to produce 6 million semi-steel radial tires and is “about to reach full production,” General Science executives said at a 15 March annual marketing event.
Operational since 1995, the Wuxi facility currently has the capacity to produce 10 million units/year of truck & bus tires.
Launched in November 2023, the Yuan881-million (€112 million) upgrade project is part of group efforts to expand its position within the passenger car tire market.
Speaking at the event, General Science’s general manager Cheng Jinyuan said the tire industry was 'in a period of deep adjustment and fast reshuffling’.
Given the ‘uncertainties in 2025’ the GM said General Science was developing a strategy based on ‘innovative business models’ that optimised cost structures and improved profitability.
Also speaking at the conference, passenger car tire unit director Wu Jian said the tire industry was currently facing ‘multiple challenges’.
However, he said, policies such as China’s “old for new” automotive strategy would bring new market opportunities domestically.
In 2025, Wu Jian added that General Science’s business strategy would increase its focus on marketing & services as well on product offerings.
