Plans for facility at Melbourne refinery to process 80,000 tonnes per annum of waste tires
Las Vegas, Nevada – Canadian tire recycling specialist Klean Industries has signed an MoU with Viva Energy Australia to build a tire recycling facility in Melbourne, Australia.
The companies will collaborate on the pre-feasibility study to establish a pyrolysis plant with capacity to process up to 80 kiltonnes per annum (ktpa) of waste tires, said their press release issued 11 March.
To be located at Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery, the unit will produce recovered carbon black (rCB), steel and pyrolysis oil, which will be further processed through the refinery to produce low-carbon fuels.
The joint statement did not provide financial details for the project or a timeline for construction or delivery.
“By transforming ELTs into valuable resources, we are not only reducing waste but also pioneering new paths for low-carbon fuel production,” said Viva Energy chief strategy officer Lachlan Pfeiffer.
Viva Energy is currently importing a shipment of tire pyrolysis oil produced using Klean’s technology.
