Third sunset review finds likelihood of a resumption of dumping if existing measures are removed
Brasilia – Brazil is set to extend antidumping duties on the imports of Chinese car tires, according to a recent ruling by the country’s foreign trade office.
The 13 Feb preliminary ruling covered 65 and 70 series car tires with rim sizes of 13 inches and 14 inches and tire widths of 165 mm, 175 mm and 185 mm, said the trade authority in the official gazette.
The third sunset review found that there was a likelihood of a resumption of dumping of the products to Brazil if the existing trade barriers were removed, thereby causing injury to the local industry.
The trade authority recommended that the dumping duties should be extended by two months until 25 May, when the review is completed.
Initially imposed in 2009, the duties were most recently extended in 2019 and currently range between $1.25-$1.77 per kilogramme.
In July last year, the Brazilian trade body initiated the third sunset review upon a petition by the Brazilian Tire Industry Association.
The dumping investigation period for this case is from January to December 2023, and the injury investigation period is from January 2019 to December 2023.
