Momentive in JV deal to produce silanes in Asia

Seoul – Momentive Performance Materials group (Momentive) and silicon products manufacturer Jiangxi Hungpai Material have singed a definitive agreement to establish a joint venture focused on the manufacturing and sale of silanes in Asia.

The partnership combines Momentive’s materials expertise with Hungpai’s manufacturing capabilities of silane products, including organofunctional silanes, said Momentive 25 Feb.

The JV, it said, aims to better serve the growing Asia Pacific market.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.

The partnership, according to Momentive’s president of performance additives VP Nalian, is a “significant milestone” in the company’s ‘in region for region’ strategy.

According to Nalian, Hungpai is a “market leader in sulphur silanes globally” and the collaboration will enable service “with enhanced speed and high-quality products.”

The JV “leverages the complementary strengths of both organisations,” combining Momentive’s global footprint and customers with Hungpai’s manufacturing capabilities, said Benny Chi, chairman of Jiangxi Hungpai New Material.

“[We] are excited about the promising opportunities it [the partnership] brings for our future partnership,” he added.
