Finnish supplier tracks development of automation solution 15 years since its introduction to the tire industry
Ulvila, Finland – Cimcorp has highlighted the progress of its Dream Factory system for tire manufacturing plants, since the introduction of the automation technology 15 years ago.
Employing robotics and powered by intelligent software, the intralogistics system is designed to connect and optimise machinery and processes – from tire-building to order-fulfilment.
According to Cimcorp, it has delivered 309 ‘solutions’ to date: helping tire makers worldwide to eliminate bottlenecks, reduce waste and future-proof their operations.
“The first tire-industry customer was Nokian in 2001 and by 2008, the tire industry had become Cimcorp’s most important sector,” the supplier noted in a 27 Feb release.
While the early projects focused on automating individual areas of tire plants, Cimcorp realised that factories were using disconnected systems, causing bottlenecks, errors and waste.
“We knew tire makers needed a complete system with modular design, redundancy and minimal space requirements,” explains Veli-Matti Hakala, CEO of Cimcorp.
“We expanded our software to connect entire processing areas, integrating our robotic systems with the tire factory's process machinery. Here, our Dream Factory concept was born.”
The first fully integrated Dream Factory solution was delivered to a major tire manufacturer in India in 2010, and by 2015 Cimcorp had partnered with 14 of the world’s top 25 tire makers.
Further projects followed at Tigar in Serbia and Qingdao Sentury Tire in Thailand, noted Cimcorp, adding that it has now completed projects for all of the world’s top ten tire manufacturers.
Furthermore, the incorporation of technology for handling of raw materials and compounds helped to secure projects with clients including Petlas, Giti and Iris, the supplier pointed out.
Significant innovations, it added, include the ‘tire production dashboard,’ which brings data from all machines, systems and devices under one umbrella to provide tire makers with real-time insights.
Going forward, Cimcorp said it will enhance the solution with emerging technologies – including AI and digital twin modelling – to meet the needs of tire companies as they respond to evolving trends, such as growing volumes of electric vehicles and increased sustainability demands.
