Partners opt to focus on production operations in Vietnam to ensure reduced carbon footprint
Kiyosu, Japan – Automotive parts manufacturer Toyoda Gosei Co. is collaborating with a sporting goods company to produce footwear from steering wheel cover remnants.
It is working with Asics Corp. on the firm's range of SkyhandOG sneakers, available from this month (February).
Processing of the waste and shoe manufacture will be located at the firms’ respective factories in Vietnam, in order to minimise CO2 footprint, noted Toyoda Gosei's 27 Jan release.
It is the companies’ second such joint project: following an earlier sneaker line launch in January 2023, using recycled airbag fabric.
Toyoda Gosei already sells consumer products under its Re-S ethical brand, focused on difficult-to-recycle automotive components.
