Purchase of historic company's curatives & additives business to “spearhead drive in rubber chemical supply…”
London – Virdis Chemicals Ltd has acquired the rubber curatives and additives business of Manchester-based J. Allcock and Sons, Virdis announced 18 Feb.
The acquisition, said the London-based firm, strengthens its rubber chemicals portfolio: adding curatives for FKM fluoroelastomers, plus carnauba wax and other compound ingredients.
Virdis aims to “build on its existing rubber network” to offer a wider package of products for rubber compounders, with a specific focus on FKM for the Intercure range.
This is a distribution agreement. Allcocks recycle rubber at their Manchester site, but don’t make any of the products covered by this agreement.
Founded back in 1924, J. Allcock & Sons is a rubber recycling and chemicals business based in Manchester, UK, the Virdis statement noted.
The chemicals wholesaler said its team has over 20 years' experience in supplying to the global rubber, plastics, adhesives, sealants and moisture-control industries.
“The acquisition has expanded our product range and customer-base in strategic markets," said Mark Baldwin, CEO of Virdis.
The deal "offers us the opportunity to focus on growth in the UK and global markets,” the company leader added.
Asked for further details, a spokesman said Virdis is a relatively new company, which started trading in August 2024.
"This is a distribution agreement," he added. "Allcocks recycle rubber at their Manchester site, but don’t make any of the products covered by this agreement."
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
