Ostend, Belgium – The Port of Oostende has announced the arrival of Tyros BV with a project for the recycling of end-of-life tires (ELTs) via pyrolysis technology.
Tyros, founded in May 2024, will establish itself on a 2-hectare site at the former UCB site in the port area of ??Oostende, said the 17 Jan statement.
The investment in an electric pyrolysis reactorhas attracted €1 million in funding from the Flemish government by way of ‘strategic ecology support’, noted the Port of Oostende.
This technology, it added, makes it possible to convert 9,125 tonnes of rubber granulate from ELTs annually into products such as recovered carbon black (rCB), green pyrolysis oil and syngas.
The site will eventually process 100,000 tonnes of tires per year, of which 18,000 tonnes will be via on-site pyrolysis, continued the statement.
This, it said, will lead to the production of over 5,000 tonnes of pyrolysis oil and approximately 6,800 tonnes of rCB for circular applications.
Tires will be delivered by truck, while shredded tires will be transported by container via the waterway for further processing, concluded the Flanders port authority.
