“Long-term” deal to meet growing demand for ‘circular’ carbon black in tires, rubber goods
Houston, Texas – Contec SA is to supply tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) to Orion for the production of ‘circular’ carbon black for tire and rubber goods under a deal announced 4 Feb.
The “long-term” agreement with Warsaw-based Contec will help Orion to diversify its sources of TPO, according to a press statement from the carbon black maker.
Orion “will be able to make large-scale volumes of circular grades of carbon black” to meet growing demand from tire and rubber goods producers,” said its CEO Corning Painter.
TPO-based manufacturing is “the only circular technology that is moving into industrial production to produce high-quality active carbon black,” Orion further stated.
Orion said it is the only company to have made ‘circular’ carbon black from 100% TPO as a feedstock, adding that these products can replace virgin carbon black in many applications.
“This partnership [confirms] that the industry is continuously evolving, and the circular economy is no longer just a vision for the future,” said Krzysztof Wróblewski, CEO of Contec SA.
