Sumitomo Rubber to supply rubber scrap generated during the tire manufacturing, used tires
Kobe, Japan – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) and Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. have signed an agreement to collaborate on producing carbon black from waste rubber.
As part of the deal starting from January, SRI will supply Mitsubishi Chemical with rubber scrap generated during the tire manufacture as well as used tires.
Mitsubishi will process the waste materials into a tar to be used in the production of carbon black, said SRI in a 30 Jan press statement.
The resulting resource-recycled carbon black will be used as a raw material for the production of passenger car and racing tires by SRI this year.
SRI said it evaluated the process through a demonstration experiment launched in the summer of last year in collaboration with Mitsubishi Chemical. (ERJ report)
