German tire recycler expected to break ground on the new plant in summer 2025
Dillingen/Saar, Germany – Pyrum Innovations AG has progressed an end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis project in Greece after securing construction permit in early January.
In an 8 Jan statement, the German tire recycler said its Greek partner Thermo Lysi SA received the approval for the construction of a Pyrum pyrolysis plant at its recycling site in Livanates, about 140km north of Athens.
With the project now "fully approved", Pyrum said there was no regulatory obstable in the way of making a final investment decision, which is expected in the first half of the year.
The “long leads” – the plant components with the longest delivery times - are expected to be ordered in the second quarter of 2025, to ensure a smooth construction phase later on.
Thermo Lysi expects to break ground on the new line later in the summer.
The joint project with Thermo Lys is the first Pyrum plant outside Germany and will have the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of ELT per year.
The unit is expected to recycle “almost half” of the annual volume of ELT arisings in Greece.
Pyrum planns to acquire a 15% equity stake in the project company.
