New plant near Ahmedabad to specialise in ‘marine systems and infrastructure’
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg Group has announced plans to invest SEK75 million (€6.5 million) in a new production facility in India to produce marine systems and infrastructure products.
The facility will be constructed near Ahmedabad, in western India, where Trelleborg already has a marine & infrastructure engineering and innovation centre, the Swedish group announced 18 Dec.
Set for operation in late 2026, the unit will have optimised production processes, including efficient water management and steam production from solar heaters, Trelleborg added.
The investment is part of Trelleborg's strategy to strengthen its position in “attractive and profitable” industrial segments and geographic areas.
“As one of the largest markets in the world, India is expected to experience healthy growth for many years to come,” said group president and CEO Peter Nilsson.
India’s’ progress, he added, will drive an increasing need to upgrade and construct new infrastructure, such as commercial ports.
Trelleborg has operated in India for over 40 years, and sales in the country totalled nearly SEK700 million in 2023.
The group operates factories for sealing solutions, automotive boots, cable protection for telecom equipment, and antivibration solutions for industrial applications, rails, and rolling stock.
Trelleborg’s IT and engineering centres, which provide technical support for Trelleborg’s global offices, are also located in India.
