Engineers worked “intensively” to enhance driving characteristics and keep noise level below 66 decibels
Neu-Isenburg, Germany – Hankook is equipping the Volkswagen Tiguan with its new Ventus evo SUV summer tyre, tailored specially for road-noise reduction, the South Korean tire manufacturing group announced 9 Dec.
The OE tire for the third generation of the compact SUV is available in five different sizes, from 18 to 20 inches, “all precisely matched” to the respective model.
Hankook said its engineers worked “intensively” during the two-year development time to combine the enhanced driving characteristics of the Ventus evo SUV with a particularly low noise level.
Tread design and tread materials, it said, contribute to a noise level of less than 66 decibels – lower than the specification requirements and meeting the overall vehicle limit of 68 decibels.
“The ‘opti pitch’ technology, focused on the ideal size and positioning of the tread blocks, and the Kerf design were aimed at minimising noise level,” said Hankook.
An “optimum” number of blocks on the inside and outside of the tread for maximum steering precision when cornering, also supports requirements for a low-noise tread pattern.
Additionally, the tread height was adjusted to reduce noise without compromising traction, braking behaviour, cornering stability or maximum mileage, noted the tire maker.
Hankook’s developers also applied expertise into achieving the lowest possible rolling resistance for the VW Tiguan tires.
The new Ventus evo SUV is “produced exclusively” at Hankook’s ultra-modern European site at Rácalmás, Hungary, the company added.
