Turkish antitrust authority launches probe into tire maker Brisa

Ankara – The Turkish competition authority has launched an investigation against Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci Tyre Industry & Trade Inc. for a potential breach of competition regulations in the country.

In a 5 Dec statement, Brisa said the company had been informed about the probe into its tire production and distribution practices.

The investigation will determine if Brisa has violated Article 4 of Turkey’s protection of competition act, which concerns price-fixing, control of supply to the market or activities that restrict or hinder the operations of competitors.

Brisa stressed that the opening of an investigation could not be interpreted as a violation of the act by the company or would not necessarily lead to criminal sanctions.

The tire maker said that it would share relevant developments with the public in accordance with the capital markets legislation.
