Nationwide programme to collect and recycle tires at no cost to the consumer
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Bike maker Trek Bicycle and Liberty Tire Recycling have launched a bicycle tire recycling programme across all Trek-owned stores in North America.
Cyclists can bring their worn-out bicycle tires to a participating Trek store, where they will be collected and recycled at no cost to the consumer, said the 4 Dec announcement.
Recycler Liberty's role is to make sure every part of the tires is repurposed, with recyclate materials used in applications such as landscaping, asphalt and 'tracks',
The Pittsburgh-based company claims to be North America's 'market leader in tire recycling management, diverting around 2 million tonnes of rubber from landfills each year.'
