Dow appoints Karen Carter as chief operating officer

Carter tasked to drive growth with focus on strengthening customer engagement and relationships
Midland, Michigan - Dow Inc. has named Karen Carter, currently president of Dow packaging & speciality plastics, as chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Carter will be responsible for driving business and operational performance across the organisation with a focus on strengthening customer engagement and relationships, said Dow 3 Dec.
She is also tasked to accelerate the commercialisation of Dow's innovation pipeline, and enhance the company's reliability and service to customers.
Her responsibilities will include the overseeing of Dow's business operating segments – packaging & speciality plastics, industrial intermediates & infrastructure, and performance materials & coatings.
In addition, Carter’s responsibilities will be aligned with other Dow operations, such as supply chain, purchasing, information systems, and commercial.
She will report to Dow chair and chief executive officer Jim Fitterling and will join the company's executive committee.
Carter, according to Fitterling, has three decades of experience, having delivered “strong business results.”
"She has an excellent track record of operating discipline, maintaining close relationships with key partners and customers, and driving innovation across the organisation,” he added.
Carter joined Dow in 1994 and has held a broad range of leadership positions at the company, including business operations, sales and marketing, and human resources.
Most recently, as president of Dow's packaging & speciality plastics (P&SP) operating segment, she helped expand capacity cost efficiently and led the development of innovative circular solutions.
This includes the launch of circular product lines, such as Revoloop recycled plastic resins and Innate precision packaging resins.
