Prime minister visits Tri-Star motorcycle tire manufacturer, stresses need for investment in local industry
Naypyidaw – The government of Myanmar has called for a strengthening of the domestic tire manuacturing industry as the country depends heavily on imports.
During a 29 Nov visit to motorcycle tire maker Tri-Star in Yangoon City, prime minister Min Aung Hlaing called for new investment in the industry.
“Since we are importing foreign currency to meet domestic demands, the people are facing high costs,” the prime minister said in a government release.
Therefore, “it is essential for the public to have access to locally produced tires at affordable prices," Myanmar's leader stated.
Tri-Star is Myanmar’s only tire manufacturer and has the capacity to produce 5 million units of motorcycle tires per year.
During his visit to the plant, the prime minister called for the establishment of a manufacturing plant for agricultural tires to address the needs of local farmers.
Furthermore, Aung Hlaing said efforts should be made to produce high-quality rubber domestically and to increase the production of rubber products.
