Association of American Railroads says 'manway' is main source of non-accident releases during transporatation...
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg Sealing Solutions (TSS) has introduced a range of fluoroelastomer (FKM) gaskets for use in the transport of highly aggressive chemicals, the company has announced
The Tran-Secure ‘manway nozzle’ gasket are specially designed with “superior sealing capabilities and simplified manufacturing processes for appropriately torqued tank car manways.”
In particular, the products are designed to ensure containment at the manway, which according to the Association of American Railroads is the leading source of non-accident releases from chemical tanks.
Featuring a single-piece design with chevron profile, the FKM gaskets are said to offer enhanced chemical resistance, robust mechanical strength and can be used across a wide temperature range.
The chemical industry faces many challenges both in the processing of materials and in the transportation of these materials to customers, according to a 16 Oct TSS release.
“Our engineers designed these gaskets to stand up against aggressive chemicals and exhibit... durability and longevity for transporting a broad range of chemicals,” said Thijs Menzel, TSS global segment director, chemical & processing.
