Dutch-based supplier hiking capacity for cross-linking peroxides at production site in China
Ningbo, China – Nouryon has completed a capacity expansion for organic peroxides at its manufacturing facility in Ningbo, to support the growing polymer industry.
The expansion has doubled the production capacity of Perkadox 14 and Trigonox 101 organic peroxide products to 6 kilotonnes per annum each, the Dutch materials supplier said 12 Nov.
The products, it said, are “essential ingredients” for modifying polymer properties and crosslinking rubbers and thermoplastics.
According to Nouryon, the peroxides are used in a wide range of rubber goods, such as hoses, seals, cable insulation and shoe soles.
Other applications include in recycling, as both products can be used to enhance the properties of recycled propylene-based polymers.
This feature, Nouryon explained, enables customers to use recycled polymer in applications previously “only accessible to virgin materials”.
This is the latest in a series of investments Nouryon has made to strengthen the manufacturing of its polymer chemicals.
In 2021, the company invested in a greenfield organic peroxide manufacturing facility at its new site in Tianjin and a new tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) manufacturing facility in Ningbo.
“Asia Pacific is a key region for Nouryon and our most recent expansion in China strengthens our supply position even more in this growing region,” said Sobers Sethi, SVP, emerging markets and China.
The company, he added, is building more capacity to meet growing customer demand.
