International Trade Commission agrees with duties, ranging 48.39% to 12.33%, on imports of truck and bus tires from Thailand
Washington - The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has determined that anti-dumping duties, ranging 48.39% to 12.33%, should be applied on truck & bus tires imported from Thailand.
In a 6 Nov decision, the ITC said that the US domestic industry was “materially injured” by the imports of truck and bus tires from Thailand, as they’re sold at “less than fair value”.
Upon the affirmative determination, the US Department of Commerce will issue an anti-dumping duty order on imports the products.
In a preliminary decision 16 Oct, Commerce determined a 48.39% duty rate for Bridgestone Corp. and 12.33% rate for “all others.”
The rates are considerably higher than the 2.35% margin announced by the authority in June.
According to data previously provided by Commerce, the US imported over 10 million units of TBR tires from Thailand in 2022.
The imports level, it said, represented a 40% increase on the 7.2 million units recorded in 2021 and more than double the 4.7 million units reported in 2020.
Value-wise, TBR imports from Thailand reached $1.46 billion in 2022, up 52% compared to $958 million in 2022, and 135% compared to $623 million in 2020.
The anti-dumping probe followed a petition by the United Steelworkers (USW) in October trade union last year, which alleged dumping margins as high as 47.8% for TBR imports from Thailand.
