Pune, India – Bridgestone India Private Ltd. (BSID) has announced an $85-million (€80 million) expansion of its tire manufacturing facilities in Puna, Maharashtra and Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Work on the projects is set to start in early 2025, with specific focus on improving “premium” passenger car tire (PCR) production at the sites, parent Bridgestone Corp. said 8 Nov.
At Pune, Bridgestone aims to increase PCR production capacity by 1.1 million units per year by 2029, while the Indore facility will be upgraded with new 'premium tire production capabilities’.
BSID will also establish a satellite technology centre at its Pune site in 2025 to support the introduction of products based on ‘Enliten’ technology to the Indian market.
India offers growth opportunities for premium passenger tires,” said Bridgestone, citing a “stable” outlook for its domestic automotive industry and long-term consumer trends.
Operational since 2013, the 1,400-employee, 760,000m2 Pune factory has capacity to produce 11,000 light vehicle (LV) tires and 1,900 truck & bus tires per day.
At Indore, BSID specialises in the production of LV tires and has capacity to manufacture 19,500 units/day, according to Bridgestone's statement.
