New development result of Hankook’s ‘tire-to-tire’ collaboration with 12 other Korean companies
Seoul – Hankook Tire has started the mass production of tires using three types of ISCC+ certified carbon black products derived from tire waste.
The carbon black was produced in collaboration with Hyundai Oilbank and HD Hyundai OCI using ‘refined oil’ obtained from the pyrolysis of end-of-life tires, said Hankook in a 6 Nov statement.
The project was conducted under the context of a ‘tire-to-tire’ consortium initiated last November by Hankook and participated by 12 other Korean companies.
The carbon black materials were produced using the refined oil and through the mass balance approach, said Hankook.
The Hankook statement did not provide further details about the quantities applied in the production of the tires or the facilities where the tires were manufactured.
The company, however, said it will continue to work closely with consortium partners to develop carbon black made with 100% pyrolysis oil as part of its goal to use 100% sustainable materials in its products by 2050.
