Washington – Pirelli is recalling over 3,000 motorbike tires in the US due to potential defect that could result in tread separation.
The Pirelli- and Metzeler-branded tires were produced between 30 Nov 2016 and 11 June 2024, said an 18 Oct announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to NHTSA, the tires may develop irregular wear under certain service conditions such as low inflation pressure, heavy load, road conditions and mileage at almost the half of tire life.
The irregular wear, it added, may result in breakage of the zero degree reinforcement over time.
“If this condition is not promptly detected, it may lead to potential detachment of parts of the tread layer and/or sudden air loss... increasing the risk of a crash,” it said.
According to the NHTSA report, the tires were manufactured at Pirelli’s production plant in Breuberg, Germany.
