Polish government authorities rejected appeal by carbon black distributor in August
Warsaw – Carbon black distributor Makrochem group has recently issued a statement* about the termination of business activity in relation to sanctions)
(Last October, ERJ reported on Makrochem’s efforts (ERJ report) to reverse a Polish government decision to place the company on its sanctions list, leading to the termination of its activities.)
*Statement:
“Since 2 Oct, 2023, MAKROchem Polish group has terminated every operational business activity, including business activity in Russia.
In the end of 2023, MAKROchem has cancelled all contracts it had with Russian counterparts.
MAKROchem has publicly declared that it terminated all procurement activities in Russia.. This message has also been passed on to all customers.
Since October 2nd, 2023 MAKROchem’s Russian company has practically terminated operational activities, kept paying its employees and generating loss.
Sales of the Russian company of MAKROchem had been awaiting approval from Polish governmental authorities since the end of 2023 until August 2024, when it was rejected.
The reason for rejection was “willingness to cut all ties with Russia is not sufficient to grant a positive decision”.
After the rejection, MAKROchem moved on to liquidate its Russian company. Owning a company in liquidation in Russia, caused only by the decision of Polish authorities mentioned above, remains the only link of MAKROchem to this country.
It has been wrongly assumed that MAKROchem delivered raw materials used for production of tires in Russia – since 2016 we have not sold a single kg of carbon black to Russian companies.
Imports of carbon black from Russia to Europe continued seamlessly until end of June 2024 basing on quota system introduced by European Commission. MAKROchem has not participated in it since 2nd of October 2023.”
