New partnership to highlight need for proper tire care and reduce gaps in driver knowledge
Vienna / London – AI mobile data firm Anyline has formed a partnership with TyreSafe, a UK organisation dedicated to raising awareness about the critical role of tires in road safety.
The partnership kicks off during a recent ‘tyre safety month’ – a UK-wide campaign during October urging drivers to remember to check air pressure, condition and tread of tires.
According to Anyline, its technology is used by automotive manufacturers, tire makers and retailers to scan tire sidewall, tread depth and vehicle data.
This, it said, includes tire DOT codes, vehicle identification numbers, licence plates and barcodes, using any standard mobile device or camera-enabled automotive diagnostic devices.
UK government statistics show that on average 152 people in the UK are killed or seriously injured every year due to tire defects, said Stuart Lovatt, chair at TyreSafe.
“Our research estimates that as many as 6 million tires are currently on the road with illegal tread depth,” stated Lovatt – welcoming Anyline as a partner in educating drivers about the importance of tire safety.
“As sophisticated as our vehicles become... they are only connected to the road with just four areas of tread, each about the size of an adult palm,” said Lukas Kinigadner, CEO and co-founder at Anyline.
“Properly maintaining your tires makes the road safer for everyone, and working together with TyreSafe, we can jointly fund important research and share our insights with a much broader audience,” Kinigadner added.
As an initial project, Anyline and TyreSafe are commissioning a comprehensive study* looking at UK drivers’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviours around tire safety.
*Preliminary results from that report, which will be available later this month, include:
Gen Z drivers (age 18-34) show lower awareness and understanding of the risks associated with tire safety,
About 26% of younger drivers rely on friends or family to check their tires, compared to just 8% of older drivers.
