Japanese automotive supplier steps up safety systems production in India in response to new vehicle safety regulations
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei Co. (TG) has expanded its production plant in Neemrana, in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, to add capacity for the manufacture of airbags.
The expansion project involved the addition of 14,000 sq.m. of building area at the plant, which is operated by subsidiary Toyoda Gosei Uno Minda India (TGUMI).
The unit produces various safety systems and weatherstrips and the new factory was put into operation in September, TG said in a 10 Oct statement.
The Japanese automotive supplier has stepped up its airbag production in India over the recent months, with plans to build a new manufacturing site in the country disclosed last month. (ERJ report)
According to the group, vehicles have been increasingly equipped with airbags for frontal collisions in India.
With stricter collision safety assessment of vehicles, TG anticipates a rise in the installation of side airbags and curtain airbags to improved passenger protection.
