Italian maker says Elect technology provides up to 50km of additional mileage compared to conventional tires
Milan, Italy – Pirelli has obtained over 500 homologations for its ‘Elect’ tires – developed for electric and hybrid vehicles – since launching the product range in 2019.
Elect tires include a package of technologies that enhance the specific characteristics of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, according to the Italian tire maker.
In a 22 Aug statement, Pirelli said seven out of 10 “premium and prestige car manufacturers” had chosen its tires for use on their BEVs and PHEVs.
The tires are claimed to exhibit particularly low rolling-resistance: providing up to 50km of extra range compared to Pirelli’s conventional tires.
The performance advantage, according to the Milan-based tire manufacturer, can result in savings of up to €150 per year on charging costs.
In addition, Elect tires are said to feature high grip, helped by “innovative" compounds tailored to manage the high torque of electric motors.
Along with a reinforced structure designed to cope with the extra weight of EVs, the compound & construction contribute to reducing tire wear by up to 20%, says Pirelli.
Elect technology is also stated to improve 'acoustic comfort' by up to 20% compared to traditional tires: enhancing the feeling of silence inside the vehicle.
Pirelli offers over 30% of its P Zero family with Elect technology, followed by the Scorpion range, dedicated to SUVs, as well as the Cinturato range, dedicated to sedans and CUVs.
The technology is also available with 22% of Pirelli winter tires and 17% all-season tires.
