New UK tire company says Camac factory will enable “reindustrialisation” of Avon product range
Westbury, UK – Newly established UK tire company Nova Motorsport has expanded its manufacturing footprint with the acquisition of Portugal-based tire maker Camac.
The move, announced 9 April, follows Nova Motorsport’s acquisition Avon Motorsport and Avon Racing of assets from Goodyear earlier in the year. (ERJ report).
The acquisition signals “a significant expansion in Nova Motorsport’s capability and reach within the specialist and motorsport tire industry,” said the Westbury-based company.
The company statement did not provide further details about the terms of the transaction.
Based in Palmeira, Portugal, Camac’s factory has a production capacity of over 500,000 tires per year.
The company, according to Nova Motorsport, is “a key player in the specialist tire market”, including the highly competitive motorsport sector.
From its location in the EU, Camac's manufacturing facility is expected to serve Nova Motorsport’s customers across Europe and the rest of the world.
The acquisition "represents a fundamental milestone in the execution of Nova Motorsport’s global business strategy,” said James Weekley, Nova Motorsport commercial director.
In particular, said Weekley, the purchase “facilitates and accelerates the reindustrialisation of the Avon Motorsport product range.”
In addition to the acquisition, Nova Motorsport said it had recently employed technical experts and engineers to help deliver its growth strategy.
The company has appointed Mike Lynch as its chief technical officer, supporting the ‘recommissioning of the new Camac factory’ from Nova Motorsport’s technical centre in Holt, UK.
“We are also uniquely positioned to collaborate with companies seeking bespoke tires for competition and specialist applications,” said Lynch.
