Chinese tire maker completes first phase of TBR tire project in the south east Asian country
Shenzhen, China – Guizhou Tyre has announced plans to build a new passenger car tire plant in Vietnam, as it progresses an ongoing project for the production of truck & bus radial (TBR) tires in the country.
In a 5 March stock exchange filing, the tire maker said it had decided to invest $227 million (€207 million) in the new factory, to be located at the Long Jiang Industrial Park, in Vietnam's Tien Giang province.
The ‘intelligent radial tire facility’ will have capacity to produce 6 million units of passenger car tires per year, said Guizhou Tyre's securities statement.
Production, according to the Chinese tire manufacturer, is slated to start in two years with ramp-up to full capacity anticipated over four years.
The move to build a new PCR unit follows Guizhou Tyre’s completion of the first phase of its TBR facility at the same location – annual capacity to produce 1.2 million units of tires.
Guizhou Tyre announced last year that it was "actively progressing" the construction of phase II of the TBR project in Vietnam.
Launched in 2021, the €153-million project aims to raise the TBR capacity at the Tien Giang plant by 950,000 units per year, including 50,000 units of agricultural tires.
Once the latest project is completed, TBR capacity at the Vietnam facility will reach 2.15 million units/year.
