End-of-life tire pyrolysis unit in Uddevalla set to become operational by end of 2025
Uddevalla, Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has symbolically broken ground on its large-scale end-of-life tire pyrolysis plant in Uddevalla.
The Swedish tire recycler and its joint venture partners, Antin Infrastructure Partners and Michelin, finalised plans for the Uddevalla unit earlier in the month (ERJ report).
The construction of the recycling plant in Uddevalla “has now begun in earnest”, said Envrio following the 13 Feb groundbreaking.
The facility will have capacity to recycle 34.5 kilotonnes per annum of waste tires, equal to 40% of the annual ELT arisings in Sweden, according to previous reports.
The unit is expected to be fully operational by 2025, Enviro added.
The flagship facility will be "the first in an extensive European initiative" through which Enviro and Antin aim to recycle 1 million tonnes of tires by 2030, said Enviro chairman Alf Blomqvist.
In the initial phase, the plant is expected to generate around 40 jobs for the region.
Enviro said it has obtained environmental permits for further expansions, which could create additional job opportunities.
