Belgian company Emulco to use Lion’s L-EPDM as raw material for new line of water-based emulsions
Geismar, Louisiana – US synthetic rubber manufacturer Lion Elastomers has signed a supply & distribution agreement with Belgian emulsions producer Emulco NV.
The deal gives Emulco rights to use Lion’s Trilene 65 liquid-EPDM (L-EPDM) as raw material for a new line of water-based emulsions, under their new brand name Aquapol.
The L-EPDM/polyisobutylene dispersions can be cured at ambient temperature with peroxide, UV, or hybrid curing technologies, explained a 13 Feb Lion announcement.
The emulsions, it noted, can form a solid and durable membrane after curing, making them suitable for applications such as roofing, waterproofing, and sealing.
According to Lion, the end-materials offer “superior performance, durability, and environmental benefits” compared to conventional solvent-based coatings.
The two companies intend to work together to develop and launch new EPDM emulsion products worldwide, the statement added.
The new products are billed as eco-friendly, as they reduce the emission of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to solvent-based alternatives.
