If selected, southeast Asian country would be home to four Chinese tire makers
Phnom Penh – Wanli Tire is investigating a project to build a tire manufacturing facility in Cambodia, taking advantage of the country's incentives for inward investment.
A ‘high-ranking’ delegation led by Wanli chairman Wang Song met with officials from Cambodia’s investment board 30 May to discuss a potential investment.
The delegation discussed 'business facilitation' and related incentives offered by the country, said a statement by the Council for the Development of Cambodia.
Wanli Tire, for its turn, stated that Cambodia “is a potential and attractive investment destination” for the company's overseas investment decisions.
If it proceeded, Wanli would join three other Chinese tire makers currently investing in Cambodia, amid increasing import-duties on tires originating from China.
Sailun Group is already operating a €300-million tire production plant in Svay Rieng, Cambodia – started up in November 2021.
The Sailun facility has a nominal capacity to produce 9 million units of passenger car tires a year.
In April, Jiangsu General Science Technology officially inaugurated a production facility in the southwestern Cambodian province of Sihanouk.
Designed to produce 5 million units/year of passenger car tire and 900,000 units/year of all-steel truck & bus tires, the unit is due on-line in 2024.
In February, Qingdao Double Star Co. Ltd (Doublestar) unveiled plans to build a greenfield tire plant in Cambodia, in partnership with local mining company Ube Development Co. Ltd.
Under the plan, Doublestar's €196-million facility would have capacity to produce 8.5 million high-performance radial tires per year.
