Preem to run tests on scrap tire-derived pyrolysis oil in different biofuels
Stockholm – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) is set to start the delivery of recovered pyrolysis oil to Sweden’s “largest fuel company” Preem.
The delivery is part of an SEK2 million (€180,000) order received last November, said the Swedish end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis company.
Preem will use the delivered oil as a raw material to run production tests for different biofuels, explained a 9 Feb statement from Enviro.
According to Enviro, Preem has high environmental ambitions, including the production of 5 million cubic metres of renewable fuel by 2035.
Pyrolysis oil, noted Enviro, contains a high percentage of renewable material due to the large proportion of natural rubber found in vehicle tires.
The delivery coincides with a recent trial and follow-up order of Enviro’s pyrolysis oil by a “leading US oil company”.
“In the past year, we have seen clear growth in interest for our recovered pyrolysis oil,” said Enviro CEO Thomas Soerensson.
The trend, he said, is being driven by increased demand for more environmentally sustainable fuels and soaring energy prices in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The company, according to Soerensson, is also seeing a trend for “larger volumes with deliveries over longer periods.”
