Concept tire features nine compounding ingredients from sustainable sources
Gurugram, India – Apollo Tyres has developed a concept tire with 75% sustainable materials, in line with its strategy to increase the use of sustainable raw materials in products to 40% by 2030.
The concept farm tire has nine featured compounding ingredients from sustainable resources, said Apollo 9 Feb.
These, it said, include recycled rubber, sustainable carbon black from end-of-life tires, bio-based oil, recycled nylon and bead wires processed with higher recycled content.
The concept tires, said Apollo, incorporate "sustainable natural rubber, sourced from suppliers who have public commitments to sourcing and/or traceable to plantation, in accordance with the company’s sustainable natural rubber policy.”
“This is a big milestone in the sustainability journey of Apollo Tyres,” said PK Mohamed, chief R&D advisor.
According to the company official, the tire is currently being “tested extensively” before being commercialised.
The product, he went on to say, marks a major milestone for Apollo in terms of becoming an “early mover” in the sustainability space, particularly in India.
The concept tire was manufactured at Apollo Tyres’ Perambra plant in Kerala, in southern India.
